My role as the user experience librarian is to measure the effectiveness of the organization, with a special emphasis on the delivery of services. This includes both qualitative and quantitative efforts with the aim toward improvement. The second objective of my position is to develop communication methods to inform user populations about library. This position reports directly to the Associate Director for Public Services and involves working widely across all departments. Includes supervision of a full-time graphics designer.
I also have reference and instructional responsibilities as the subject specialist for mechanical engineering and computer science, as well as the coordinator for distance learning programs.
Significant Contributions
- Initiated subsidized Interlibrary Loan Pilot Project.
- Extended Distance Learning services to include free document delivery, online orientation sessions, and web-based tutorials.

My primary duties included the promotion and delivery of reference and instructional services. As the liaison to the engineering programs, I worked to increase awareness of resources through one-on-one extended reference sessions and classroom instruction. I was also responsible for collection development in civil, mechanical, and electrical engineering, physics, transportation and computer science for the Virginia Campus. I also served as interim web coordinator for the Gelman Library System and worked with various departments to develop online content. Significant Contributions

I began as a student assistant in the stacks department. This job taught me the behind the scenes organization of a library. This evolved into a full-time staff position running the circulation desk. In this position I oversaw the day-to-day operations of the desk including the training and supervision of 10-12 student assistants. After nearly three years I moved on to the reference department were I worked in the Ask A Librarian division helping patrons with questions via chat, email, and telephone formats.

- Co-coordinated a chat service pilot program.
- Developed detailed proxy instructions for remote users. (Prior to the EZ-proxy era.)
